About DTW

Our purpose

WORKINGPEOPLE are the
protagonists of social change that empowers us all.

DTW Symbol 1

DTW aims to to increase the percentage of working people who are organized into democratically-led unions and other self-funded, worker-led formations.

DTW Symbol 2

From the federal workers facing mass layoffs, to Whole Foods workers in Philadelphia, to Hollywood screenwriters, auto workers, and baristas, everyday people are standing up for their own economic security and political agency.

DTW Symbol 3

This is our best chance to reshape the societal dynamics and political terrain that have led to right-wing populism, authoritarianism, and the greatest economic inequality since World War II.

Partnerships

DTW works with individual donors and philanthropic foundations, in partnership with working people and unions, to fuel worker organizing.

If you're building worker power and would like to learn more about DTW grantmaking, email us at team@democracytakeswork.org.

Approach

Rebuild and exercise the power of working people

DTW's strategic approach is to ORGANIZE, INNOVATE, and FIGHT. We engage new kinds of working people, leverage proven and new models, and focus on strategic sectors. Innovation comes through testing tactics and models, exploring new tools and infrastructure, all evolving for today’s conditions. Simultaneously, we support working people in wielding their leverage in the most consequential fights happening right now.
